General Info

Tucked away at R. da Sra. da Rosa 3, 9500-450 Ponta Delgada, Portugal, Restaurante Magma is the kind of place that quietly wins you over the moment you walk in. The atmosphere feels warm and relaxed, with a cozy dining room that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the evening. It’s not overly formal, yet it still feels polished and thoughtfully arranged. Whether you're stopping by for dinner or settling in for a longer meal with friends, the space makes it easy to feel comfortable.

One of the first things that stands out when browsing the menu at Restaurante Magma is the balance between creativity and simplicity. The kitchen clearly focuses on flavor and presentation without overcomplicating things. During my visit, the standout dish was the Croquant de Maquereau Ananas Et Aioli. The combination might sound unexpected at first, but it works beautifully. The mackerel arrives crisp and flavorful, while the pineapple adds a gentle sweetness that balances the richness of the fish. The aioli ties everything together with a smooth, savory finish. It’s one of those dishes that makes you pause for a moment after the first bite.

Dinner service here feels especially enjoyable because the pacing is just right. Plates arrive thoughtfully, giving you time to appreciate each course rather than feeling rushed. The staff also seems genuinely attentive without hovering, which adds to the relaxed vibe of the restaurant.

Another pleasant surprise is the dessert selection. Restaurante Magma is known locally for its great dessert offerings, and after tasting one, it’s easy to see why. The desserts feel carefully crafted rather than just an afterthought at the end of the meal. They’re the perfect way to round out a satisfying dinner.

The restaurant also features a bar onsite, which adds another layer to the experience. Guests can enjoy a drink before their meal or linger afterward with a cocktail or glass of wine. The bar area blends seamlessly into the cozy atmosphere, making it feel like a natural extension of the dining space rather than a separate area.

For those evenings when dining out isn’t possible, Restaurante Magma also offers delivery service. This makes it easier to enjoy items from their menu even from home, which is a nice option for both locals and visitors staying nearby.

Overall, Restaurante Magma feels like a thoughtfully run restaurant where attention to detail shows up in both the food and the environment. From the comforting setting to memorable plates like the Croquant de Maquereau Ananas Et Aioli, the experience feels genuine and well balanced. Browsing through reviews before visiting, it’s easy to see why many guests mention the same things: flavorful dishes, welcoming service, and a location in Ponta Delgada that feels worth seeking out for a relaxed evening meal.

What customers say?

“ Best experience around, food was AMAZING, service was awesome! Atmosphere was romantic. We had a great time and our server was a great sport! ”

- Justine Evans -

“ This restaurant is in a hotel which gave me doubts. It ended up being some of the best foods I have eaten. The portion size was a perfect amount. We had the octopus rice, limpets, pineapple ravioli. The pineapple ravioli is so unique and tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant if you want a nice date night. The interior was stunning with all the beautiful colors. ”

- Maryssa Block -

“ We are here our first night and I got the four course chefs meal. It is all selected by the chef and every course was fabulous especially the dessert, but I had and An amuse bush an appetizer that was a limpet. I had a fish serving and then a fillet of steak, which was out of this world and then crème fraîche and strawberries with cookies and the strawberries were so fresh and delicious ”

- Becky Snella Day -

“ I went here with medium expectation and I was blown away by the diversity of the dishes, friendliness of staff and the great taste. Highly recommend the 4 course tasting menu (full vegetarian option was amazing). Also, nice atmosphere to celebrate your wedding day. I haven’t asked my girlfriend, yet, but we really enjoyed. ”

- Basjan Spangenberg -

“ Staff SUPER kind and educated! Just the best. The restaurant is super cute and beautiful! The octopus rice was so so but the falafel was amazing. They have good wine and are pet friendly. Strongly recommend for everybody and every occasion. ”

- Luana Amarante -

“ The food was very good, we had the 5 course vegan menu. Some dishes were more delicious than others, but all in all totally fine! And amazing, that they serve vegan food. Wine was excellent! ”

“ We experienced breakfast, brunch, and dinner here during our stay at the connecting hotel. Breakfast has a very nice selection of items. Meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, pastries, juices, in addition to “on demand” items available for order (omelets, waffles) and coffees. The cappuccino with a little cinnamon on it was my favorite morning beverage. Brunch is very similar with breakfast items, but many more lunch items. Breads, sandwiches. Dinner was a great experience. We really enjoyed the Portuguese cuisine options. Our starter included a chorizo butter that was smoky and very, very tasty. Husband had a steak loin that he really enjoyed, and I had the Golden Chicken with potatoes. Overall, we really enjoyed each of our dinning experiences. The restaurant itself is so beautiful. The staff does a great service, and the food is very enjoyable. ”

“ Delicious! You can tell the food is made with care! I wasn’t in the mood for a large meal, and settled with the tortellini (pictured) made with locally sourced meat, and squash soup. Both were quite flavourful and very good. Before the meal was served, you are offered an amuse bouche. For dessert, I had an americano and this pineapple desert (pictured) (forgot the name!). Staff were very friendly, and attentive to detail! ”
